Just over a week ago we released our latest banger, “Park Life.” The amount of positive feedback we have received from this video has been greater than any other release we’ve ever had. Everyones support means a lot to us. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Its especially touching when a die hard fan suggests or offers to pay money in exchange for our videos. We’ve gotten lots of ideas from you guys–charging for subscriptions, taking donations, adopt a “pay anything you want” model, etc.. We’ve been talking a lot to other people lately about how our business model works. “How do you guys make money?” A common question. Let me explain (I made a diagram–I know, it sucks).

We are rock climbers. We go out and make climbing movies. Usually we have some sponsors but more often than not its an investment for us. We give the movie away for free. We choose to give away our videos for free because the cost of distribution is zero and we want as many people to see it as possible. Free removes the cost barrier for our audience to see our video. And the cost barrier for our audience to share it with others. As our work improves and our audience grows it increases our visibility within the community and industry. Its that relationship with our audience that builds our reputation and establishes our work as quality. Its what enables us to market ourselves to commercial clients and what motivates potential clients to seek us out for their creative media needs. And that’s how we ultimately get paid. Via the commercial gigs. The money we make from that gets filtered back into the company. We can have a budget to go and make another climbing movie. Get a new camera or computer. Push our creativity even farther!

Make sense? Offering us money for our free videos is a wonderful gesture. It means you really like our work. That means a lot to us–we greatly appreciate it! Ultimately the best thing any fan could ever do for us–if you like a video–share it with someone else you think will like it. Tell them about what we do here at LT11. Take them climbing! :)
